Traditional Japanese craftsmanship is at the heart of every Tansukan chest. The hand-crafting process can take weeks or months but the results are worth the effort.
A wide variety of wood is used for tansu construction. Occasionally wood from old Japanese homes and businesses is imported not only to conserve resources but to add to the mystique of the chests.
Individual planks are trimmed and planed down in preparation for use. The process reveals the beautiful wood grain that will give the chest its depth and character.
