After construction is complete the finish is applied and the tansu is prepared for fittings. The hand-crafted metal fittings are painstakingly cut, shaped and then aged to add to the character of the tansu. They serve not only as ornamentation but protect the tansu from wear and tear. Due to slight variations during the build, drawer numbers are written in Japanese calligraphy to mark the order in which drawers are to be placed. The tansu is finalized with Tansukan's Mon and Kanji, the ancient equivalent of a brand's logo.
